Thanks for the insights here. I've struggled with this concept a lot over the years, and I appreciate this framing of focus on voice as a way through it. It reminds me of how Gary Panter once said we don't "find" styles but rather that they "happens to" us.

I really enjoy your posts Christopher. And I too remember a time when I had to go to the library to photocopy art books and magazine. Research took more time, and it was a good thing, because it would lead you to think and combine ideas while discovering new artists.
